(Note: This
tactic is still in "outline" phase. More to come on this subject.)
Technique: Be
entertaining. If you want people to listen. If you want people to act,
If you want people to notice, be entertaining. Rush Limbaugh proclaims
to his 22 million listeners that he is “just an entertainer”. Those who
make the headlines may or may not have something important to say, but
they certainly are entertaining. If you want access to the media, be entertaining.
No one wants to listen to someone give a boring, monotone speech, but don’t
blame the content or wording of that speech. That is secondary. We need
action. We need entertainment. Be energetic. Be animated. Be funny. Be
angry. Be Entertaining. Paragon Cable in NY decided to try a little experiment.
Instead of simply shutting off cable service to nonpaying customers, they
filled all of their channels with C-SPAN, a station that provides unedited
coverage of congressional speeches. According to Paragon, payment delinquencies
prummetted after this strategy was implememted. Lesson Learned: Well, I
don’t know if “no news is good news” but it certainly seems preferable
to boring news.
