Distort the Intent and Effect of Your Opponent's Plan Forum for Tactics
(Note: This tactic is still in "outline" phase. More to come on this subject.)

Technique: Distort the intent and effect of your opponent's plans. Use the absolute worst scenario to describe the opponent's plan and the absolute best scenario to describe your own plan.. Another fun and effective technique is to speculate on the destructive power of your opponent's faulty, filthy plan. How dare they concoct such a disgusting plan. Also, focus on you opponents 1) Ulterior Motive. Make one up if you have to. How does the policy fit into your opponents' political strategy? E.g. When Bush proposed amnesty for illegal Mexican immigrants, he was largely portrayed as a "vote buyer". 2) Polling Data. There is always some polling data somewhere that shows "the public" against the policy or at least some aspect of it. If truly no such polls exist, conduct your own… and don't worry so much about the statistical validity of you results. Most people don't know what "statistical validity" means. See also "Expose Their Ulterior Motive" and "polling data".
