(Note: This
tactic is still in "outline" phase. More to come on this subject.)
Technique: Do
NOT come across as a radical. There are 3 types of people: Those for you,
those against you and those somewhere in between. Those against you are
probably not going to change their minds. Those for you do not have to
change their minds. The target therefore are those in between. The one
sure way to turn the middle-of-the-roaders away is to act like a radical
on any issue. Ex. Suppose you want to ban guns in America (A radical stance
according to most Americans) and one which would require a repeal of the
2nd amendment to the constitution. Most people, unless they already agreed
with you, would close themselves off to you. You are much better off lobbying
for various gun control laws and assault weapon bans.. Radical arguments
are easily dismantled and happily ridiculed. Don’t give them that opportunity.
Instead move toward your goal in “Baby steps”. This is a technique that
desensitizes people as they take each step toward the ultimate goal. Each
small step is simple and little to ask of anyone, It gains a sense of commitment
to the cause of those taking the small steps. These are the same people
that would, perhaps, be against the ultimate goal if asked to support it
without any initial steps.
