Keywords For Don Evans: Aristocracy, Despicable Behavior

BACKGROUND: Don was campaign chairman during Bush II's presidential run. His career has focused on the oil industry (as has most of the careers of those in the Bush II administration). He was chairman of the board, president, and CEO of Tom Brown, Inc., an oil company and was also a director of TMBR/Sharp Drilling, Inc. He was a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, co-chairman of the Midland Wildcat Committee, and a director of the Permian Basin Petroleum Association and the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum. He also was a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization-49ers and the Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Association. Who says the Bush administration is a slave to the oil industry? They are the oil industry.

FACT: Commerce Secretary Don Evans stops the Census Bureau from adjusting the 2000 head count to include the undercounted. Evans says he decided the politically sensitive issue himself. Census numbers will be used for redistricting and the allocation of roughly $200 billion a year in funding for the next ten years. Minority communities, however, were disproportionately under-represented in the 1990 census and are the communities most affected by not using adjusted numbers.
