BIGOTRY:
Summary
AMMO
John Ashcroft
(Bigot, Fanatic)
FACTS:
* Rose to prominence keeping Kansas City
public schools segregated.
* Missouri voters in the November 2000
elections chose a dead man (The governor, who was killed in a plane crash
just before the election.) over him. Bush rewarded Ashcroft's embarrassing
failure to defeat the corpse by making him Attorney General.
* He is one of several Republicans who
has supported Southern Partisan, a neo-confederate magazine that runs justifications
for slavery and celebrates the assassinations of Lincoln and Martin Luther
King; (Note: Timothy McVeigh was wearing a Southern Partisan T-shirt when
he blew up the Murrah office building in Oklahoma City.) Birds of a feather.
Dick Armey (Bigotry,
Un-American) 05/2002
FACT:
The United States Senate unanimously passed legislation to provide federal
death benefits to survivors of ten fallen heroes from the 9/11 tragedy.
The bill was named for Father Mychal Judge, the gay chaplain who died while
administering last rites to a firefighter in the World Trade Center. While
the Senate did the right thing, bigoted Republicans in the House, led by
Dick Armey, couldn't stand the thought of providing assistance to surviving
family members of gays and lesbians. The bill cleared the House Judiciary
Committee, but Armey pulled it before it could come up for a vote on the
House floor.
COMMENT:
Apparently, according to the GOP, being Gay eliminates you from being a
person, not to mention a patriot and a hero, even if you've made the ultimate
sacrifice in order to protect your fellow Americans. Armey is a pig!
Bush (Bigotry)
FACT:
In an interview with USA Today, White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card
reveals the Bush administration's intention to eliminate the Office of
National AIDS Policy (ONAP), created by President Clinton in 1994, and
the Office of One America, created by President Clinton in 1997 to improve
race relations. The next day, the White House, realizing the unpopularity
of its decision, reverses itself, allowing both offices to remain open….
for now. The Associated Press notes that phones in both offices go unanswered,
however.
Bush (Faith-Based
Initiative, Abortion, Lies, Bigotry)
FACT:
In a meeting with Catholic groups, Bush inadvertently announces over an
intercom to the entire White House that the Faith-Based Initiative plan
would help them fund their anti-abortion activities. Karl Rove holds secret
meetings this month with the Salvation Army offering to let them discriminate
legally against gays if they would support the plan.
COMMENT:
So, the faith-based initiative is merely a covert funding scheme for the
overturn of Roe vs. Wade.
Christian Coalition
(Bigotry)
FACT:
The Christian Coalition is hit with a bias lawsuit by its black employees,
who contend they were prohibited from entering the front door of the coalition's
Capitol Hill-area offices. The employees say they were told to enter the
back door but were not given key cards to unlock it, forcing them to pound
on the door for entry. Director Roberta Combs made statements that black
staffers would wear out an Oriental rug in the reception area if allowed
to come and go through the front door. Combs also allegedly said "she did
not want important people seeing the 'girls' from remittance/data entry
in the reception area." A former white employee is also suing Combs, saying
he was fired for refusing to eavesdrop on the black employees.
Ann Coulter (Racism,
xenophobia, intolerance, Conservative Thinking) 09/2001
FACT:
In a September 12 article, Coulter paid tribute to her friend (Barbara
Olson). Ann suggested her "solution" to the problem of terrorism, "We should
invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."
In another article, she suggests that since "really annoying" security
procedures don't necessarily make a "safe plane," we should simply "pass
a law tomorrow requiring that all aliens from Arabic countries leave."
Jerry Falwell
(Hypocrisy, Bigotry)
FACT:
Rev. Falwell told Beliefnet.com last week that "the Moslem faith teaches
hate," and therefore should not receive any federal funding under Bush's
new faith-based initiative. He went on to say that "any group that is anti-Semitic,
racist, or in any way bigoted should be disqualified". I recall one of
Jerry's love-filled quotes from the past, "When [the antichrist] appears
during the Tribulation period he will be a full-grown counterfeit of Christ.
Of course he'll be Jewish."
Jerry Falwell
(Bigotry, Homophobia, Intolerance, Hypocrisy)
FACT:
Ever the good shepherd, Jerry Falwell just could not resist the opportunity
to use the September 11 tragedy for his own twisted ends. People were still
reeling from the shock of it all when Falwell appeared on Pat Robertson's
TV show The 700 Club and went off on a tirade against all things liberal.
According to Falwell, the disaster occurred because God was displeased
with feminists, gays, lesbians, abortionists, pagans, the U.S. courts,
the ACLU and the People for the American Way. "I point the finger in their
face and say, you helped this happen," he announced. For Falwell to even
think of making such comments in the first place is sickening; to make
them on behalf of a religion which is supposed to promote forgiveness,
tolerance and compassion is despicable.
Jesse Helms (Bigotry)
FACT:
Jesse Helms announce recently that he regretted not doing more about the
AIDS epidemic during his time in Congress. Of course, Helms clarified his
remarks last week, making sure everyone knew that he was referring to the
epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa, and not to homosexuals in the United States.
"If it had extended to them, I would have said so," said Helms.
Jesse Helms (Bigotry,
Misogynist)
FACT:
On Clinton-era HUD appointee Roberta Actenberg: "She's not your garden-variety
lesbian. She's a militant-activist-mean lesbian."
Jesse Helms (Bigotry,
Stupidity)
FACT:
On AIDS: "We've got to have some common sense about a disease transmitted
by people deliberately engaging in unnatural acts."
Jesse Helms (Bigotry)
FACT:
During a debate on investigating Mexican corruption: "All Latins are volatile
people. Hence, I was not surprised at the volatile reaction."
Jesse Helms (Bigotry,
Stupidity)
FACT:
Quote from a brainiac, "The New York Times and The Washington Post are
both infested with homosexuals..."
Richard Nixon
(Bigotry, Stupidity)
FACT:
After the latest set of Nixon tapes was released. About Drug Policy, Nixon
had this to say: "every one of the bastards that are out for legalizing
marijuana is Jewish. … What is the matter with them? I suppose it is because
most of them are psychiatrists." (?) He also explains that pot is worse
than alcohol because people drink "to have fun," but people smoke marijuana
"to get high. He explains that Archie Bunker's son-in-law Meathead "goes
both ways," and that another TV character is "obviously queer. He wears
an ascot, and so forth."
Republicans (Bigotry)
FACT:
A pair of amendments were quietly announced in the Vermont House last week
which would declare gay and lesbian relationships a "health hazard."
COMMENT:
Yes, it seems that in the Republicans' eyes formal commitments to serious
and stable monogamous relationships with their life partners is a health
hazard
Republicans (Bigotry,
Anything to Win)
FACT:
In the race for VA governor, the GOP have started to run anti-homosexual
radio ads which attempt to tie Democratic front-runner Mark Warner into
some kind of evil gay agenda ploy. The radio ad features a man and a woman,
with the man saying of the Democratic candidates, "One of them wants to
legalize gay marriage in Virginia." Responds the woman, "Gay marriage in
Virginia?" The man replies, "Oh, you haven't heard the worst of it. Mark
Warner opposed welfare reform and the abolition of parole for violent felons."
Following up on this anti-gay theme, Warner's Republican rival, Mark L.
Earley, has declared that he stands for "Virginia values, not Vermont values."
And his prospective lieutenant governor, Jay Katzen, was recently quoted
in a Richmond magazine saying that AIDS is a product of people choosing
to be homosexuals. According to the Washington Post, "Gay rights organizations,
including a group of gay men and lesbians who are Republicans, criticized
the ads as distorted, divisive and irrelevant to the election."
Republicans (Flat
Earth Society, Bigotry)
FACT:
Compassionate-conservative bigotry got a boost last week, when the Virginia
State Assembly passed a bill to force Virginia school boards to "develop
policies prohibiting presentations, classroom discussions, school-sponsored
assemblies and student meetings" that deal with sodomy and other "crimes
against nature."
Pat Robertson
(Bigotry, Stupidity)
FACT:
First he informed the world that the attacks on America were all the fault
of gays, atheists, and abortionists. Then he tried to back away from the
statements, saying that his remarks were "inappropriate." But obviously
not inappropriate enough, because Pat has wheeled them out again. On the
"700 Club" recently, Robertson, referring to terrorists, said that, "I
do believe that San Francisco is going to be a target of these people."
Pat Robertson
(Bigotry, Hypocricy, Stupidity, 911)
FACT:
Post 911, Jerry Falwell appeared on Pat Robertson's TV show The 700 Club
and went off on a tirade against all things liberal. According to Falwell,
the disaster occured because God was displeased with feminists, gays, lesbians,
abortionists, pagans, the U.S. courts, the ACLU and the People for the
American Way. "I point the finger in their face and say, you helped this
happen," he announced. For Falwell to even think of making such comments
in the first place is sickening; to make them on behalf of a religion which
is supposed to promote forgiveness, tolerance and compassion is despicable.
To that, Pat Robertson said, "Oh, I agree."
David Bunning
(Bigotry, Hypocrisy, Nepotism, Aristocracy, Affirmative Action)
FACT:
David Bunning, a 35-year-old kid whom the American Bar Association deemed
"not qualified," was nominated for a federal judgeship. It turns out that
David Bunning is the son of Republican Senator Jim Bunning so you can rest
assured that he was approved.
COMMENT:
It is well known that conservatives believe jobs should be awarded entirely
on the basis of merit. This is the basis for their opposition to affirmative
action of any kind. So all this talk of so-called "merit" is just a smoke
screen to filter out those pesky minorities and woman. Oh well, that's
OK, cuz rich kids deserve this support while others don't. (See also Strom
Thurmond Jr., Scalia Jr., Bush Jr., Michael Powell - FCC Chief)
Al Cárdenas
(Election 2000, Bigotry)
FACT:
Florida Republican Party chairman Al Cárdenas appeared in the Weekly
Standard to denounce the credibility of the African-American leadership.
"We need to call into question the African-American leaders and what they're
saying,'' Cárdenas announced. "If we don't do that, [voters are]
going to take the Democrats' and the African-American leadership's word
for it. The only way we break that cycle is to call into question the credibility
of those who are parlaying that message." Black leaders were understandably
furious about the remarks. Frederica Wilson, chairwoman of the Florida
Conference of Black State Legislators, said, "During the struggle for civil
rights, it was common for those who wanted to protect segregation and deny
minorities equal rights to attack black leaders physically and through
more personal attacks on their credibility."
Census Bureau
(Bigotry, Lies)
FACT:
It was reported last week that the Census Bureau has recommended against
any adjustment in the 2000 census, even though estimates indicate that
more than three million Americans, primarily minorities, were overlooked
in Census 2000. Republicans have pushed for this result because if will
affect the redrawing of electoral districts in their favor - for the next
ten years. The Census Bureau decide not to use statistical sampling because
they couldn't resolve the count in time to meet an (arbitrary) April 1st
deadline.
COMMENT:
Deja vous - Election 2000. You can imagine that there was some Bush administration
pressure on that decision given its consistency with excluding millions
of American citizens from the electoral process.
Don Davis (Bigotry)
FACT:
Florida State Senator Don Davis received an e-mail which he thought would
be of interest to others, and forwarded it to every member of the state
House and Senate, this enlightening email said, "Two things made this country
great: White men and Christianity." The message went on to say that all
of America's current problems "can be directly traced back to our departure
from God's Law and the disenfranchisement of White men." Uproar ensued.
After initially stating that "there's a lot of it that's truth," Davis
claimed, "I am not now nor have I ever been a racist."
Family Research
Council (Bigotry, Intolerance)
FACT:
The right-wing Family Research Council seems to be getting a free pass
for criticizing the President over his "implicit endorsement" of the "homosexual
political agenda." In a memo, FRC President Ken Connor released his complaints
with Bush: 1) letting openly gay Rep. Jim Kolbe speak at the GOP convention,
2) naming a "militant advocate of homosexual rights," as ambassador to
Canada (Paul Celluci), 3) choosing "prominent gay activist" Scott Evertz
to head the White House AIDS office, and more. The memo also criticized
Colin Powell for presiding over the swearing-in of "openly homosexual Foreign
Service officer" Michael Guest as ambassador to Romania.
Jim Gilmore (Lies,
Bigotry)
FACT:
A Jim Gilmore spokesperson confirmed last week that financial assistance
will not be available to the same-sex domestic partners of those killed
on September 11. Peggy Neff, whose partner died in the Pentagon, recently
received a letter from the state that read, "Please accept our condolences
on the loss of your friend, Sheila M.S. Hein. We regret to inform you that
you are not eligible to file a claim for benefits under the Virginia Victims
of Crime Act.'' And so Neff, who had planned to scatter her partner's ashes
in their garden, will now probably have to give up the house instead. "Our
law is pretty clear on who is eligible, and it does not include domestic
partners,'' said Gilmore spokesman Reed Boatright. ''(Gilmore) can't just
rewrite laws with the stroke of a pen. If he could do that, we'd have a
kingdom.'' However, that New York Republican Governor George Pataki did
just that when he signed an executive order allowing gay victims' surviving
partners to receive assistance from the state victims' fund.
Rush Limbaugh
and Bill Schneider (Bigotry, Stupidity, Election 2000) 04/2002
FACT:
Rush Limbaugh made the tubby-moron hall of fame with such insightful comments
as the one about the 2000 election results, "If you take away the
black vote, Bush won by a landslide." Not to be outdone, CNN's Bill Schneider
explained that, if you don't count black people's votes, Bush would have
won by 187 electoral college votes and, if you take away the black vote
in the 2000 Senate races, Democrats win only 37 seats instead of 50.
COMMENT:
Luckily, we don't live in the "White's only" world of Limbaugh and Schneider.
One point that they did leave out however was that Gore won in a shut-out
if all racists misogynists and war-mongering windbags are deleted from
the voting equations
Roy Moore (Religious
Fanatic, Bigotry, Separation of Church and State)
FACT:
Moore is the State Supreme Court Chief Justice who put a 5,800 monument
to the Ten Commandments in the state Supreme Court. Recently, there was
a 9-0 state Supreme Court decision to award the custody of three children
to their father, rather than their mother because she's a lesbian. This
prompted Moore to write in his opinion that the woman would be an unfit
parent because homosexuality is "abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime
against nature, and a violation of the laws of nature," not to mention
"an inherent evil." He even quoted scripture to back up his argument! What
more "proof" do you need in a court of law?
COMMENT:
A look back at Roy's law school transcript shows that he, believe it or
not, substituted his requisite constitutional law classess with the more
popular cleasses regarding "Laws of nature". Thus, Moore is now widely
regarded as an expert on the laws of nature and has even been known to
participate in a little "all natural" judicial activism. A conservative
no-no, but that's all right, cause it's God's will.
The Salvation
Army (Bigotry, State’s Rights, Faith-based initiative)
FACT:
The Salvation Army wants to discriminate against homosexuals - and it looks
like the Bush administration is willing to help out. An internal document
revealed that the White House made a "firm commitment" to protect the Salvation
Army from state and local employment regulations which would prevent their
discriminatory hiring practices. In return to the White House, the Salvation
Army promises to hire lobbyists and spending up to $110,000 a month to
promote Bush's "faith-based initiative," the program that funnels taxpayers'
money to religious organizations. Have you donated lately?
Chuck Spingola
(Bigotry, Intolarance, Hypocricy, Stupidity)
FACT:
Chuck Spingola, and some members of his ministry, "Missionaries of the
Pre-Born" were visiting the University of Wisconsin campus to talk about
the evils of abortion and homosexuality, which unfortunately didn't go
down too well with some of the students. During a confrontation, Spingola
allegedly started choking a gay man, while telling him that his time had
come to go to hell.
