DESPICABLE
BEHAVIOR:
Summary
AMMO
John Ashcroft
(States Rights, Despicable behavior)
FACT:
Famed proponents of states rights, the Bush administration, has been assaulting
California law in an effort to shut down one of the state's largest "cannabis
clubs," which cared for over 900 terminally ill patients. A spokeswoman
for the DoJ, Susan Dryden, said, "The recent enforcement is indicative
that we have not lost our priorities in other areas since September 11."
COMMENT: So
there you terminal, hippie, drug addicts. Take that. Love, John Ashcroft.
Dick Armey (Despicable
behavior, Self serving)
FACT:
In response to the September 11 attacks which resulted in a massive decrease
in air travel, congress signed a $15 billion bail-out program for the airlines
so they could stay in business. Despite this bailout, tens of thousands
of airline employees were laid off. In response to a Democratic proposal
to extend benefits to the laid-off workers, Dick Armey said, "the model
of thought that says we need to go out and extend unemployment benefits
and health insurance benefits and so forth is not I think one that is commensurate
with the American spirit here."
COMMENT: Ah,
yes. Thank goodness the Republican Leadership has the concept of "American
Spirit" deeply and accurately ingrained in their pea-brains. We certainly
wouldn't want any misrepresentation that might result in the average-worker-types
getting screwed, would we. So I think we can all safely say, "Thanks. Dick!"
Bush Administration
(Lies, Despicable behavior)
FACT:
Ari Fleischer and other White House officials spread the deliberate lie
that outgoing Clinton Administration staffers have vandalized the White
House, although no-one is allowed to see the damage. Office Depot donates
thousands of dollars of computer keyboards to replace those supposedly
damaged. Congressman Bob Barr demands a General Accounting Office Investigation.
The GAO investigation turns up nothing but the Bush administration never
returns the donated keyboards.
George W. Bush
(Lack of Leadership, Coward, Lies, Profiteering, 911) 05/2002
FACT: According
to the GOP, the infamous Bush-9/11 exploitation photo they were hawking
for cash demonstrated "the gritty determination of our new president."
But in an interview last week for German television Bush revealed what
was really going through his mind as he sat safe and sound on Air Force
One. "I was concerned about things like, is my wife safe? You know, I was
worried about that. I was worried about things such as my parents. I was
worried about my [twin] girls....I mean, I was trying to get out of harm's
way."
George W. Bush
(Despicable behavior, Stupidity, Lies)
FACT:
Bush shamelessly claimed that, at the beginning of his administration,
Bush said that he would only break into Social Security in the event of
war, recession, or a national emergency. According to Mitch Daniels, the
budget director, Bush said to him shortly after September 11, "Lucky me.
I hit the trifecta."
COMMENT:This
has been proven to be a despicable lie designed to serve as a cover up
for the surplus that he has squandered and the budget deficits that he
has produced. In reality, Al Gore made these qualifications. Bush made
no qualifications in his promise to avoid deficits. The fact that he would
turn the lie into a joke encompassing the 9/11 disaster speaks volumes
to the complete lack of class that permeates George W. Bush.
George W. Bush
(Hypocrisy, Punishing the Impoverished, Corporate Interests, 911)
FACT:
In the winter of 2001, Bush refused to release $300 million earmarked to
help the poor pay their heating bills, citing the possibility of a milder
winter this year. Cold weather state lawmakers are trying to encourage
Bush to release the funds.
COMMENT:
In addition, the number of people seeking heating assistance will rise
this year, due to layoffs following the September 11 attacks. All this
while Bush gave the airlines $14 billion.
George W. Bush
(Punish the Impoverished/Children, Tax cuts for the rich)
FACT:
During the campaign, George W. Bush liked to say that he would "Leave no
child behind." Soon after these proclamations, he announced that he was
cutting spending on childcare and support for abused children by $200 million,
in order to pay for his tax cut for the rich. In addition, those who actually
need government support for childcare aren't getting a tax cut, even though
they pay federal payroll tax.
Bush (Lies, Despicable
behavior)
FACT:
Bush traveled to Atlanta to visit Egleston Children's Healthcare, an Atlanta-area
children's hospital. One report says that he "got misty-eyed" as he listened
to parents talk about their children's illnesses and the benefits of the
children's hospital. Then, in April, 2002 he CUT their funding.
COMMENT:
Bush will "leave no child behind" in his assault on true American values.
George W. Bush
(Lies, Despicable behavior, lack of Leadership, Stupidity)
FACT:
According to the UK Guardian, when a child in Florida asked Bush what he
thought after the first plane crash, Bush responded: "There's one terrible
pilot." And then added "It must have been a horrible accident." It's such
a typical conservative reaction, to laugh at the incompetence of the pilot
before lamely acknowledging the suffering of the victims as an irritated
afterthought. Bush also claimed that he learned about the crash by watching
it on TV. "The TV was obviously on", he said just before he started reading
to a bunch of elementary school children, even though published reports
indicate that he got the news by phone from Condoleeza Rice, his National
Security Advisor.
COMMENT:
There is little doubt that the pivotal moment in George W. Bush's presidency,
and probably the most important moment in his entire life, was when two
airplanes collided with the World Trade Center on September 11. His response
is not surprising but it is both saddening and maddening.
Bush (Bush-Bin
Laden Link, Corporate Interests, Criminal, Despicable behavior, 911)
FACT:
According to the BBC, Bush halted all ongoing FBI investigations of ties
between the Bin Laden family and international terrorism. Bush's father
and the Bin Ladens are in business together at the Carlyle Group, a private
investment house.
Bush (Laziness)
FACT:
Bush takes the first weekend after his swearing in off. No president in
US history will do less actual work in his first year. Bush has spent almost
two months vacationing since inauguration day - and that's not even adding
in the time he's spent at Camp David (14 weekends and counting so far).
Bush's advisers have attempted to spin this as a "Home to the Heartland
Tour" on which, apparently, he will be "working." Toward the end of his
"working" vacation, Bush spent plenty of time telling reporters that he
was "looking forward to getting back to work."
COMMENT: But,
but, but I thought he was working all along, you know…touring the heartland
and such.
George W. Bush
(Lies, Punishing the citizenry, 911)
FACT:
New Yorkers were disgusted to learn that Bush has effectively slashed $5
billion from the promised $20 billion of aid for 9-11 related costs. It
was revealed last week that the administration would simply steal $5 billion
from the victims' compensation fund, so that federal funding would only
need to provide $15 billion. Unfortunately New Yorkers had been led to
believe every step of the way that the two funds would be kept separate.
"It was repeatedly made clear that these dollars were not to be included
as part of the $20 billion - and we're not going to let that happen," vowed
Sen. Chuck Schumer. "This verges on a breach of faith."
COMMENT:
The Bush budget will include a series of cuts to important New York programs,
"ranging from Head Start and Drug Free Schools grants to community-development
block grants," according to the New York Post. Also, Bush's plan nearly-eliminates
the COPS program, which has allowed the hiring of 7,000 new NYC police
officers over the years. And don't forget that Bush, without hesitation,
promised and delivered $15 billion in aid to the Airlines whose penny pinching
on security was at least partially responsible for the 9-11 catastrophe.
George W. Bush
(Despicable Behavior, Blackmail)
FACT:
At a recent fundraiser for New York's Republican governor George Pataki,
Bush proclaimed that Pataki should be reelected because, "It also makes
sense for New York State to have a governor whose phone calls will be returned
from the White House."
COMMENT:
So, now Bush will not even do the job that the Felonious Five Injustices
gave him, going as far as threatening American citizens with executive
branch neglect if they don't vote for republicans. This is the same punishment
tactic used with the false "energy shortfall" in California in 2001.
NYTimes Article
Dick Cheney (Hypocrisy,
Despicable Behavior)
FACT:
During the height of the California faux-energy crises non-other than energy-industry
whore Dick Cheney was refusing to pay his energy bill. It was revealed
that the VP didn't want to spend any of his budget to pay the $186,000
bill - he wants the Navy to pay it instead.
COMMENT: It
seems to be okay that the average citizen is getting shafted by the energy
companies because the Bush administration is unwilling to take any steps
to ease the situation. But grossly unfair if any of the simpering members
of the administration have to pay the bills (even though its really the
taxpayers money paying the bills)
Ann Coulter (Racism,
xenophobia, intolerance, Conservative Thinking) 09/2001
FACT:
In a September 12 article, Coulter paid tribute to her friend (Barbara
Olson). Ann suggested her "solution" to the problem of terrorism, "We should
invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."
In another article, she suggests that since "really annoying" security
procedures don't necessarily make a "safe plane," we should simply "pass
a law tomorrow requiring that all aliens from Arabic countries leave."
Newt Gingrich
(Honor and Dignity, Hypocrisy, Despicable behavior)
FACT:
While filling in for Rush Limbaugh, Tony Snow quoted Newt as saying: "The
attacks of September 11th may not have happened if the Clinton Administration
had not been so pathetically weak and unable to focus."
COMMENT:
First, charge that Clinton was somehow responsible for the 911 attacks
while overlooking the blatant facilitation of the attacks by the Bush administration
(ordering US agencies to hold back on investigations of the Bin Laden Family,
Threatening the Taliban with a "carpet of bombs" if they don't accept the
"Carpet of gold" in exchange for their oil, Ignoring vast amounts of intelligence
and warnings regarding the imminent attacks, etc.) is absolutely outrageous.
The secondary charge (distraction) is equally outrageous, that Clinton
was weak and without focus (The Clinton administration formed a bipartisan
commission to suggest proactive protections from terrorism. Their suggestions
were boldly ignored by the Bush administration. Clinton proposed legislation
to federalize airport security. The GOP crushed that proposal. The GOP
accused Clinton of wagging the dog when he assaulted the al-queda outposts
in Afghanistan, narrowly missing Bin Laden, instead of taking the threat
seriously.) Indeed Clinton was both focused and strong. The terrorists
were not able to perpetrate the atrocities of 911 until the ideologues
of the Bush administration changed the focus of the white house to repaying
the many corporate interests that keep the GOP afloat (and lets' not forget
the int4ense focus of AG John Ashcroft, who spent all of his time usurping
state's rights by raiding "Cannabis clubs" and "Assisted suicide centers"
for the terminally ill.
Gale Norton (Corporate
Interests, Anti-Environment, Despicable Behavior)
FACT:
Gale Norton recently appointed Camden Toohey as her special assistant on
Alaska, and he will help in "managing and protecting Alaska's nearly 270
million acres of Interior Department land." What you may not know about
Camden Toohey is that in addition to his new role as Gale Norton's special
assistant, he also happens to be executive director of the pro-oil development
lobbying group Arctic Power. You may also be interested to know that his
appointment was not subject to confirmation.
Republicans (Honor
and Dignity, Despicable Behavior)
FACT:
Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reported that various GOP organizations are returning
$38,000 that they strong-armed out of an 82-year-old lady with dementia,
after her family discovered she had no recollection of sending money to
the groups. The woman responded to a direct mailing, and once the groups
realized that they'd gotten a "live one" - someone who would donate money
- they upped the mailings until she was reeceiving "dozens of letters a
week." For six months the College Republican National Committee, Republican
Strategy Headquarters and other GOP groups bombarded the woman with scaremongering
letters which were addressed to her by name and said things like, "Rush
me back $300 right now... if we delay then the Rule of Law may be dead
and America may turn into a Communist police state." Obviously terrified,
she wrote dozens of checks.
Republicans (Bigotry,
Anything to Win)
FACT:
In the race for VA governor, the GOP have started to run anti-homosexual
radio ads which attempt to tie Democratic front-runner Mark Warner into
some kind of evil gay agenda ploy. The radio ad features a man and a woman,
with the man saying of the Democratic candidates, "One of them wants to
legalize gay marriage in Virginia." Responds the woman, "Gay marriage in
Virginia?" The man replies, "Oh, you haven't heard the worst of it. Mark
Warner opposed welfare reform and the abolition of parole for violent felons."
Following up on this anti-gay theme, Warner's Republican rival, Mark L.
Earley, has declared that he stands for "Virginia values, not Vermont values."
And his prospective lieutenant governor, Jay Katzen, was recently quoted
in a Richmond magazine saying that AIDS is a product of people choosing
to be homosexuals. According to the Washington Post, "Gay rights organizations,
including a group of gay men and lesbians who are Republicans, criticized
the ads as distorted, divisive and irrelevant to the election."
Republicans (Honor
and Integrity, Criminal, Child molesters)
FACT:
Here is a quick list of those conservatives bringing Honor and Integrity
back to the good old USA. 1) Republican activist Randy Ankeney 2) Radio
Personality "Republican Marty" 3) ”Republican of the Year" Mark A. Grethen
and 4) Mayor Philip Giordano. Besides being staunch Republicans, can you
guess what these gentlemen have in common? Yup. They’re all child molesters.
Republicans (Despicable
Behavior, Taxpayers' Money, Criminal)
FACT:
When the Bush tax cut was first installed, the IRS sent a letter praising
George W. Bush to all taxpayers who received refunds. The cost of the mailing:
$30 million. Since the mainling was essentially a campaign letter for Bush,
Democrats tried to pass an amendment to remove the cost of the mailing
from the IRS budget, and were joined by 11 Republicans to reach a majority
of 218. But as the official House floor clock reached 00:00, signifying
the end of the vote, Doug Bereuter (R-Neb), the congressman presiding over
the vote, refused to bring down the gavel. Upon receiving instructions
from the Republican leadership, Bereuter waited until Tom DeLay had completed
several rounds of the floor, on a mission to persuade key Republicans to
change their votes. As onlooking Democrats cried "Shame!" six Republicans
changed their votes before Bereuter gaveled the session closed. So by stopping
the clock and extending the vote, Republicans have now authorized the IRS
to spend $30 million sending what is essentially a Bush campaign letter
to taxpayers, which is a crime though no one will get even a slap on the
wrist.
Pat Robertson
(Greed, Hypocrisy, Despicable behavior)
FACT:
A few years ago, Pat Robertson's oil company, Freedom Gold, wanted to start
an mining venture in Liberia. In order to get a foothold in the country,
Robertson signed a deal giving President Charles Taylor's regime a 10%
ownership in the company. Now for those of you who don't know who Charles
Taylor is, here's how Rep. Ed Royce (R) described him: "Charles Taylor
has waged a continuous assault on the democratic dreams of the Liberian
people. He rules by decree, he suppresses the press... and he sanctions,
if not directs, the murder of political opponents. He and his so-called
'inner circle' control virtually all the nation's significant trade...
Liberia has been described as Charles Taylor Inc. This corporation is corrupt
to its core." Back in 1992, Taylor's rebels entered a convent and had five
Americans executed because they were white.
COMMENT:
Is Pat Robertson truly a man of God? Well, if God loves brutal foregn dictators
and great financial wealth at the expense of the poor, then you betcha!
It is said that the antichrist will appear beneath a façade of peity.
Could that be Pat? You betcha!
Ann M. Veneman
(Corporate Interests, Punishing the Children, despicable behavior)
FACT:
The Agriculture Department proposed to get rid of the federal rule that
requires the meat in school lunches be free of salmonella! Of course, if
you're going to risk the lives of school children to pay off the meat industry,
you can't have the Secretary of Agriculture call a press conference herself
to announce it. So they got a low-level staffer to float the idea - just
to see if anyone would notice. Faced with a massive outcry from consumer
groups and parents, Veneman flip-flopped "The safety of our food supply,
particularly school lunches for our children, is an extremely important
issue and USDA will continue to take appropriate steps to ensure the safest
possible food supply is available for all consumers."
Claude Allen (Abortion,
Women's' Rights, Despicable behavior)
FACT:
Claude A. Allen is named Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Allen has been criticized as Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources
because he said, "abortion was a sticking point" in implementing Virginia's
Children's Health Insurance Program. Allen said the federal Health Care
Financing Administration, which provides two-thirds of the money for the
program, wanted Virginia to allow abortion coverage in instances of rape
and incest, rather than just when the life of the mother is endangered.
COMMENT:
Apparently Mr. Allen has no problems with rape and incest. Ahhhhh. Conservative
values working for us all.
American Taxpayers
Alliance (Corporate Interests, Despicable Behavior)
FACT:
The American Taxpayers Alliance started running a TV ad in California last
week attacking Governor Gray Davis for failing to protect the public from
rising energy costs. Despite their seemingly altruistic motives, the "American
Taxpayers Alliance" is actually a front group for hundreds of corporations,
including Texas-based Reliant Energy, a firm with board members that include
James Baker and Bush fundraiser Steve Ledbetter.
COMMENT:
So, Californians - energy companies are selling electricity to you at vastly
over-inflated prices, then spending the profits on TV ads attacking your
governor for failing to stop them. How do you feel?
Lynne Cheney (McCarthyism,
Anti-Free Speech)
FACT:
Last week, the conservative group "American Council of Trustees and Alumni"
(founder: Lynne Cheney) named 40 college professors whom they considered
to be unpatriotic. These professors have been labeled as part of the "blame
America first crowd" for, as an example, daring to suggest that there may
be a similarity between the suffering of American citizens after September
11 and the suffering of Afghan citizens who are living in a war zone.
Philip Giordano
(Despicable Behavior, Criminal, Hypocrisy, Honor and Integrity)
FACT:
Philip Giordano, the Mayor of Waterbury, CT, was arrested on federal charges
of child sex abuse. It turns out that Giordano had an "inappropriate relationship"
with two girls, aged 9 and 10. That's the sick and disgusting part - now
for the arch hypocrisy. Philip Giordano ran against Joe Lieberman for Senate
last year, and it was reported last week that during the campaign, Giordano
blasted Lieberman for failing to "protect children from pedophiles."
Mark A. Grethen
(Honor and Integrity, Criminal, Child Molestation)
FACT:
Thanks to his commitment to the conservative agenda, and his impressive
history of financial support for GOP candidates and the National Republican
Campaign Committee, Mr. Grethen was named "Republican of the Year" and
was invited to Washington, D.C., by none other than U.S. Rep. Tom Davis
of Virginia. But it turns out that the Republican Party wasn't Grethen's
only obsession. He's also likes molesting kids, and has a 26-year prison
sentence to show for it.
Judge N. Sanders
Sauls (Election 2000, Despicable Behavior, Lies)
FACT:
Judge N. Sanders Sauls was the judge who dismissed Al Gore's case for recounting
the ballots in Miami-Dade, forcing him to go to the State Supreme Court.
It turns out that Judge Sauls was going to be a guest speaker at a rally
organized by FreeRepublic.com along with the another guest speaker
Katherine Harris. Ironically, the rally is titled "Celebrating America,
Our Constitution and the Rule of Law."
