Bush claimed during the 2004 campaign that he could do a better job of protecting America than John Kerry, yet Bush had appointed a man with absolutely no experience in disaster management to head FEMA, rolled the agency into the DHS, reduced FEMA's budget, and then assigned it an extra task: Dealing with terrorism-related disasters.
How was Bush protecting us from terrorism when he essentially crippled the agency designed to pick up the pieces of a terrorist attack? How was he defending America's economic security from terrorism when he underfunded the SELA flood mitigation project, a project that would have safeguarded the state that was home to America's largest commercial port -- the fifth largest port in the world?
And now, terrorists across the globe are seeing us overwhelmed by a situation began by a natural disaster but compounded by the Bush Administration's negligence, and are no doubt rethinking their tactics. Why ram a building with a plane when you could hit a dam and cause greater damage on a greater scale?
George Bush has made this country infinitely more vulnerable to terrorism than anyone could have ever imagined, and he did it effortlessly. The impeachment of George W. Bush is long overdue.
