From the New York Times: “Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, in an unusually blunt public critique of China, said Saturday that Beijing's military spending threatened the delicate security balance in Asia and called for an emphasis instead on political freedom...

The military admits that prisoners and their Qurans HAVE been abused, and gives new details on some of the incidents. Again, Newsweek has been vindicated.
05/04/05 :: By Tom Ball US Military Budget Will Match Rest of World in 1 YearCategories :: Military
In only 12 months, the the amount of our tax dollars dedicated to the US Military will match the aggregate military budgets of the worlds other 191 countries. That implies a military expenditure of nearly a TRILLION US dollars -- including budgets for Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the 'standard' military budget.
01/07/05 :: By Tom Ball Bush Draft (Part II)Categories :: Bush-Cheney 2004 :: Lies :: Military :: Outrages
During the 2004 campaign, the Bush troglodytes were fond of asserting, "The only people I've ever heard suggest a draft are the Democrats." -- obviously implying that it was actually the Dems who sought to send your children to their death in various irrelevant foreign lands. Well duh! Of course the Republicans aren't going to admit what they're really intending to do. Hasn't anyone been paying attention for the last four years? Sure enough, with the military heinously overstretched and the situation in Iraq in a deterioration freefall, the Repuglinuts have vamped up their efforts -- shifting into phase two of their 'shaft 'em with the draft' campaign for global domination.
12/25/04 :: By Delton Murphy Support Our Troops! (until they come home)Categories :: Bush Administration :: Government :: Iraq :: Military
The battle for a number of US Troops continues when they return home. While some American soldiers are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, other are suffering from the effects of depleted uranium or mental illness triggered by their combat experience. Others find they have no place to live.

It seems the more we talk about detainee torture in Abu Ghraib or Guantanemo Bay, the less it gets covered; revelations from the FBI notwithstanding.
12/17/04 :: By Tom Ball Chimp Suckers Chump on Missile DefenseCategories :: Foreign Policy :: Military
I have to hand it to Bush's handlers though. First they (try to) have other nations fork out the billions necessary to fund the floundering development of the MDS. Then, once viable, the U.S. places its missiles on dozens of new lands. Global domination made simple... and funded by your local sovereign (for now) chumps.
10/26/04 :: By Cary W. Blankenship Bush Failed to Perform His Military Duty And Has Failed America as Commander In ChiefCategories :: Military
The AP story released today on the military records of George W. Bush that were released as a result of the AP lawsuit shows how the press fails to understand the military. The story claims that the harshest attacks on Bush have been by Democrats that claim that Bush was a deserter or absent without leave. You just don’t get it do you. Let me spell it out. The military requires you to attend or be present every occasion that it states. NO EXCUSES. If you are not there then you are ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE. It means you are not present and you have not provided any material to alter that status. Deserting your post means that you did not show as required by the military.
09/10/04 :: By Cary W. Blankenship Have You ever Been to a Military Funeral?Categories :: Military
Mr. Bush, why did you dishonor yourself and your country? Why couldn’t you be a good citizen and do your duty? Mr. Bush, have you been to any military funerals lately? Do you understand that you are breaking America’s heart?
09/08/04 :: By Cary W. Blankenship Saving Lieutenant BushCategories :: Military
OK – Now let’s deal with Lt. Bush. The press has a lot to answer for not following up on this story. It should have been fully developed in 1999 or 2000. In fact, the general press has done very little on this. Why?
08/20/04 :: By Cary W. Blankenship OK Now I am MadCategories :: Military
The whole Swift Boat Liars episode has made me angry. As a veteran this disgusts me.
1. I am angry at the Bush operatives who believe they can slime anyone at anytime with any kind of charge. It is truly amazing the types of charges they are pushing. The idea that John Kerry planned or staged this whole thing is ridiculous and baseless. The notion that Kerry wounded himself to get a Purple Heart comes from the land of science fiction. The concept that Kerry’s wound was not sufficient to merit a Purple Heart throws the whole concept of wounded in battle into disrepute. These people are vile scum and need to be ostracized by society, but instead the news media have played them up for their own ratings.

Lying about the reasons to go to war is bad enough but to deliberately expose our troops to the toxic effects of Depleted Uranium is reprehensible.

It's a bit hard to sell an Iraqi democracy package when so little regard is shown toward those civilians killed in an unjustified, unsubstantiated and unnecessary war.
05/21/04 :: By Delton Murphy The Empire BuildersCategories :: Government :: History :: Military
Empires never last and generally have violent, unpleasant endings and with the reality of an 'American Empire' upon us, citizens hoping for change to occur through the creation, selection or election of a political savoir is a fairy-tale response akin to a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued.
